1. Name of the Farm Pig Breeding Farm at Nongpiur

Location Nongpiur, Upper Shillong, East Khasi Hills.

Year of Establishment During 2008-09 and induction of pigs on July 2011.

Objectives:

The farm was set up with assistance under the National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP)/Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). The objective of the setting up the farm in East Khasi Hills is to maintain pure breeds of animal for breeding purpose and to produce quality piglets for sale and for further breeding and to have proper breeding system, feeding, management, disease and mortality control. To supply good quality piglets to the farmer private breeders, Govt. farms in or outside the State on demand.

Capacities 100 Sows unit and 20 breeding boars.

Breeding Stock Reared / Maintained Hampshire / Saddle back Posts No posts have been sanctioned till the end of the financial year 2012-13.


2. Name of the Farm Pig Breeding Farm at Nongkasen

Location Nongkasen, West Khasi Hill.

Year of Establishment During 2007-08 and induction of Pigs on 23rd September 2010.

Objectives:

The objective of the scheme is to rear pure bred cross bred Pigs in the farm and to produce improved varieties of piglets for the farmers. To improve germplasm of the local pigs through Cross Breeding with Stock proceeded from the farm to improve socioeconomic status of the farmers.

Capacities 100 Sows unit with the targeted annually.

Production of 2000 piglets

3. Name of the Farm Regional Pig Breeding Farm, Kyrdemkulai.

Location Kyrdemkulai, Ri Bhoi District

Year of Establishment -1986 - 87 (N.E.C Financed) & 1993 - 94 (State Government)

Objectives:

1. To maintain a 60 Sow unit breeding stock of Hampshire breed of pigs and subsequently raised to 100 sow unit.
2. To produce pure-bred Hampshire pigs for supplying to the Government Farms and Private Pig Breeders.
3. To supply pure-bred Hampshire breed to the other States of North Eastern Region.
4. To supply Hampshire pigs for improvement of local pig stock under various Piggery development programmes such as I.R.D.P., S.L.P.P. etc.
5. To impart training to the technical staffs, farmers and to Educated Un-employed Youth.

4. Name of the Farm Pig Farm, Mawryngkneng.

Location Mawryngkneng, East Khasi Hills District.

Year of Establishment 1959 (Established during Assam Government time and Re established in 1972-73)

Objectives:

1. To serve as the demonstration farm to the public in general about the methods of rearing pigs with improved practices.
2. To supply improved breeding stock of pigs to the farmers at the reasonable rates affordable by them.

5. Name of the Farm Pig Farm, Thadlaskein.

Location Thadlaskein, Jaintia Hills District.

Year of Establishment 1974 – 75

Objectives:

1. To serve as the demonstration farm to the public in general about the methods of rearing pigs with improved practices.
2. To supply improved breeding stock of pigs to the farmers at the reasonable rates affordable by them.

Capacities - 30 Sows Units.
